Assistant General Counsel

Grant Underwood joined the Office of General Counsel at the Texas Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà System in 2026. In his role, Grant supports the legal needs of the Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà System’s component institutions (Texas Áù¾ÅÉ«ÌÃ, Texas Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà Health Sciences Center, Angelo State University, Texas Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà Health Sciences Center El Paso and Midwestern State University). While his practice primarily focuses on contracts, Grant also assists with a broad array of legal issues, including athletics, real estate, and litigation.

A fifth-generation Texan and Lubbock native, Grant practiced at a Lubbock law firm prior to joining the Áù¾ÅÉ«ÌÃ. There, his work centered on transactional matters, real property, estate planning, and civil litigation. He is licensed to practice in both Texas and New Mexico. Grant earned his Bachelor’s degree from Texas Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà and his Juris Doctor from Texas Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà School of Law in 2023.

He and his wife, Madison—a fellow Texas Tech alumna—enjoy living in Lubbock, attending Texas Tech athletic events, playing golf, cooking together, and spending time with their dog Murphy.
