The Seamus Heaney Centre joins the family and friends of Tom Quinlan in mourning his passing.

19 January, 2024

All of us at the Seamus Heaney Centre were deeply saddened to learn of the death, at the start of this week, of Tom Quinlan, friend of Seamus Heaney - friend of poetry - and inspirational teacher in whose name an annual lecture was established at the Glucksman Ireland House, New York University. This lecture, which included readings by the winners of the Seamus Heaney Centre's First Collection Poetry Prize, deepened the connection between Tom and his family and the Centre. To Joe and Mary Lou, to all Tom’s family, and many, many friends and former pupils, our heartfelt sympathy.

Read more about Tom's extraordinary life and career .
