Dr Niamh Cullen

School Of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics

Niamh Cullen is a lecturer in modern European history, with particular interests in modern Italy, the history of gender and sexuality and the emotions in twentieth-century Europe, and the history of the family. While previous work has examined romantic love and jealousy in post-1945 Italy, current work focuses on maternal love, and on motherhood, feminism and left-wing activism in Western Europe after 1968. Recent work has also focused on the history of breastfeeding, childcare advice and institutions for mothers and children.
